Well, I was looking for a quick and easy craft project the other day so I decieded to try making a tutu for the princess. I think it turned out pretty cute. Here's the instructions...
-I wanted a short puffy tutu so I bought 4 1/2 yards of tulle (1 1/2 yards of each color). Cut it in half width wise and then cut it into 6 inch strips. (yes, my little monsters colored all over my cutting mat). If you want a longer tutu, just cut longer strips.
-Then, I sewed an elastic circle for the waistband using 1/2 inch elastic (If I was making it for an older child I would have used 1 inch elastic.) I used a pair of my daughters elastic waist pants for the measurement but you could also just measure your child's waist and deduct a couple of inches. To stitch it together I used a zigzag stitch, you could also hand stitch it but whatever you do make sure it's secure.
-Next, put the elastic around your thigh and start tying the tulle on one strip at a time using a double knot. Try to get all the knots at the bottom so the elastic will lay flat.
Wallah! Your done!
Heres Kaden modeling it...
And Micah...
And finally the princess...

Taryn's Mommymade Tutu
I think the total cost was around $6-$7. If I waited for a sale I probably could have done it for much cheaper. So, it's definitely a cheap and easy project.
